Bernard Garo has always photographed with sincerity and conviction, as if he were in a state of permanent alert in the face of a world in danger and in perpetual movement.

He captures images all over the world, both the imperceptible movements of our earth and the tiny and elusive details of our immediate environment, with a different perspective, which bears witness to the evolution of nature under the effect of climate change.
Creating is like taking a journey beyond the visible, over time, which looks both towards the past and towards the future, in a permanent oscillation.
Video being a mobile and ecological means of communication, therefore easier to disseminate throughout the world than painting (which requires large transport costs), the artist chose it to complement other media, in order to reveal his painting and photography in a different way, while raising awareness among a very large section of the population about the environmental issues that universally affect our planet. Themes which concern and deeply touch the artist and which he has been developing transversally on several media and with different techniques, for many years already and which the films have further enriched.

Since 1999, he has teamed up with different directors and artists to work on the stage designs for his multidisciplinary performances with the Dernier Tangente collective, which he co-created with François Chattot, (actor) as well as Eric Fischer ( musician) to support him in his concepts and performative ideas.
Most of the time he offers images that he has painted or photographically designed for his scenographic ideas and that the videographer takes, animates and develops with the video in synergy and according to the visual scenography designed for the performance by the artist, or these collaborations are linked to the capture of his engagement on stage or in nature, as a performer.

He has collaborated, among others, with Kaya Inan, Frédéric Lombard, Opossum productions, TK Kim, Katarina Boselli and many times with Marc Décosterd.

In view of the quality of their collaborations and artistic correspondences for more than 20 years, in 2022, they joined forces under the name Black Shroud. A collective with a multidisciplinary vocation, but mainly focused on video installations and film art, in order to build a marked visual identity, thanks to their complementarity and 4-handed creations for their videos and films (visual installations, short arts films and essays, performatives and poetic documentaries, already multiple times internationally awarded). They use photographs and paintings as well as images of installations or performances created by Garo in addition to images of technological scans offered by Artmyn as well as sequences shot jointly for the development of their short films which deal with environmental issues and societal and which also raise the question of art as a vector of messages. Which gives a unique and exceptional character to their film creations as well as to their video installations.
